Block train in international transport Export – train is transported from one sending station sent by one consignor, and is transported through one border crossing station. Import – the train is transported from one border crossing station to one destination station, for one consignee.

Carriage Note Document confirming a transport contract conclusion (consignment note, dispatch note for transport of empty special wagons when empty rented wagons are transported).
Carriage Obstacle An event disabling initiation of consignment transport or transport continuity to the destination station due to the forwarder’s fault, measures taken by state administration bodies and prosecution authorities, failures of track operation, natural disasters or other reasons.
Carrier Transportation entrepreneur that transports a product or service using its facilities, and offers its services to the general public, one of transport relations member. He enters the market offering transport services.
Carrier’s Business Hours It is usually time from 6.00 AM - 6.00 PM when the carrier provides its services to customers. The carrier announces it on a notice-board at the station.

Combined transport Intermodal transport where the major part of the journey is by rail, inland waterways or sea or air, and any initial and/or final legs carried out by road are as short as possible.
Combined transport freight unit A combined transport freight unit is ISO container, swap body, manipulatable road semi-trailer, roll container or other freight unit, which is regularly initiated into turn round and under the applicable technical regulations; it is controlled pursuant to specific regulations, duly registered and labeled by a registered number.   
Combined transport freight unit A container, swap body, dual semi-trailer, road vehicle (combined transport freight unit = UTI + Ro-La transport).
Combined transport infrastructure A set of all equipments necessary for complex provision of a combined transport. It is a stationary and mobile technical base of combined transport terminals, including handling and lifting equipments, buildings and facilities purposed for additional functions of terminals, and basic kinds of conveyances traffic routes used for the combined transport.
Combined transport terminal A reserved area where the transport mode is changed during handling with freight combined transport units. It contains a storage area, includes devices utilized for loading, empting, cleaning and maintenance of freight combined transport units.  
Combined transport operator It is a trading company arranging transport of freight units by combined transport in cooperation with consignors and carriers, from consignor to consignee in an uninterrupted transport chain. The operator takes all trading and other steps to support it. In other matters, such company can act as a sender not a carrier.

Consignment Goods (things or set of things) collected by carrier to be transported from a consignor
Consignment note A form of a specific design and size used as a document for concluding contract for transport of wagon consignment. It is issued by carrier and sold at a set price. 
Contract of carriage Contract of goods transport concluded between the carrier and the sender to provide paid transport and trading services.
Cover Documents All documents and papers accompanying a consignment to destination station are enclosed to the consignment note. They are entered into the consignment note by the consignor responsible for data correctness. It includes e.g. health certificate for animals, goods quality declaration, etc.

Customer (related to services provided by safety advisors) A common name for a consignor and consignee of dangerous goods consignments under the Contract of safety advisors services.  
Departure station  Station providing services at a place of take over. 
Delivery obstacle It is an event, which disables consignment to be handed over to the consignee in a destination station due to consignee’s rejection, impossibility to reach consignee or other reasons. 
Displaced wagons Operative empty wagons, temporarily out of use.
Dangerous waste Odpad, ktorý svojimi vlastnosťami (napr. toxicitou, infekčnosťou, dráždivosťou, karcinogénnymi vlastnosťami) je alebo môže byť nebezpečný pre zdravie obyvateľstva alebo pre životné prostredie.
Dangerous goods Goods accepted and transported under the specific transport conditions.
Driving railway vehicle Route vehicle able to produce tractive and braking force to move or brake route vehicles, eventually designated for transport of people, animals and objects.
Destination station Station listed in the transport document where the carrier obliged to transport the consignment to.

European Railway System European Railway System is composed of railway routes located on the territory of the EU-member countries, appointed as a part of European traffic network by a decision of the European Parliament and European Council, built eventually modernized for high-speed railway traffic, for conventional or combined railway conveyance, for route vehicles operated on these routes and freight transport junctions including combined transport terminals.

FEU Forty-foot Equivalent Unit. Standardized transport unit belonging to line 1 ISO containers size of 40´ (12.2 m), used for transportation flow and capacity measurements as a statistic unit. 40´ standardized container is equivalent to 2 TEU.
Freight unit Goods forming certain individual whole (e.g. parcel, bundle, paletted goods, small container, ...).
Forwarder Overall term for sender and consignee.

Group of wagons A group of 5 or more wagons loaded with the same kind of cargo at one sending station from one consignor intended for one consignee in one destination station, and they are sent under one consignment note. List of wagons is attached to consignment note.
HCC Harmonized commodity code – it is used for goods coding in railway transport. It arose from harmonized nomenclature and coding system of goods of Customs Collaboration Council, which is the fundamental base.  
Handling track Railway tracks for vehicle handling, i.e. classificatory, hauling, mending, antiseptic, handing over, loading and unloading tracks.
Handling freight train Train designated for intermediate stations and platforms operation.
IBC Large container for in bulk loaded materials.
Intermodal transport The movement of goods using one and the same loading unit of a combined transport without handling its content during transportation. It also involves a combined transport.
Intermodal transport unit - UTI Containers, semi-trailers, swap bodies suitable for intermodal transport.

Letter of attorney Document, under which forwarder authorizes an attorney to perform a certain activities with consignment. The forwarder’s signature has to be officially certified.
Land combined transport Transport of one and the same combined transport freight unit by railway and land communication.
Locomotive Driving vehicle designated to move, pull or push rail vehicles; it has no payload capacity or modification for transport of cargo and people.
LO-LO (LIFT ON - LIFT OFF) Technology Vertical technology for freight combined transport units handling using lifting devices.

Mending wagons Wagons out of operation due to their necessary maintenance
Means of transport Set of mobile means (ferry, car, plane, train, etc.), by which the transport realized. It is a mobile part of technical base of the conveyance.
New register Acceptance of arrived goods for the next transport under a written proposal of consignee agreed with carrier, in the same wagon, with new consignment note, into new destination station, even if the forwarder has unloaded or enclosed a part of cargo.
Notice board Carrier’s notices, which are placed on publicly available places at the station to inform  forwarders about transport matters

Overload Weight of goods, by which a loading limit stated on wagon, is exceeded.
Principal Forwarder represented in a legal action under the full powers, which specifies a scope of authorizations. 
Perishable goods Goods quickly amenable to deterioration; requiring specific protection from cold and hot conditions during their transportation.
Product validation Activity, which confirms and proves compliance of the product requirements with product operation (real or simulated).  If the product cannot be verified the product validation is carried out.  
Product verification Product is examined by reviewing and testing to confirm compliance with specific product requirements (e.g. via alternative calculations or tests or transferring, comparing the new product specification proposal with the specification of a similar already checked proposal or document reviewing before their release, etc.) 
Private wagon Wagon belonging to the owner of the private wagon, or wagon available  to lessee for a temporary utilization under a specific contract, which is integrated into rolling stock of the carrier marked by owner’s name (name of lessee) and by “P” mark in a frame.
Platform A stable device of hard surface allowing movement of machines for loading, unloading and transshipment of means of transport. They are usually situated close to warehouses. 
Package Transport package in line with the Slovak Technical Standard protecting the contents from loss or damage during the transport, it facilitates consignment manipulation, excludes menace of people, damage of other consignments and operation means of carrier.
Palette A transport tool of set size modified for stacking and lifting manipulation of the cargo loaded on it.
Peage transport Inland transport, part of which is conveyed on a foreign territory.
Payer Person or legal entity paying freightage and transportation expenses.
PNM Exceeded loading volume
Pump over Reloading of liquid cargo from one tank wagon into another (e.g. gauge transfer).
Preliminary shunting It is shunting of ordered empty wagons on the siding before scheduled loading on siding
Quality objectives Desired results in compliance with Quality Policy with the aim of permanent quality improvement. Quality objectives must have following features: clearly specified, feasible, measurable and time-limited.
Quality plan Quality plan or quality management system plan is a document specifying which instructions and related resources must be utilized, who and when they must be used for a specific product, process or agreement.
Quality management system Quality management system (QMS), in compliance with ISO 9001:2000 standard, is a systematic management of organization in order to achieve permanent improvement of organization activities, customer satisfaction and involved parties, while meeting the requirements specified in this international regulation.   
Quality management It is a coordinated activity aimed at organization management with respect to quality. 
Quality Quality is a rate, which is applied to a group of specific characteristics meeting appropriate requirements. Requirements are needs and expectations, which are setup or assumed and they are obligatory.
Quality management System Documentation It is a set of requirements, processes, documents agreed and managed by organization in compliance with ISO 9001:2000 standard. The Documentation of Quality management system stands for Quality Policy, Quality objectives, Quality Guideline – with the highest priority, as well as internal documents and technological procedures. 
Redirection letter Form designated for sending of redundant consignment separated from a carriage document.
Railway route Traffic route appointed for movement of traffic vehicles, including fixed devices necessary for movement of traffic vehicles, safety and continuity on the route.
Route vehicle Means of transport designed for transport of people, animals and objects, and for route construction and maintenance-related activities or traffic operation on the route moving on the route.
Ribband Device allowing vertical manipulation of swap body or road semi-trailer by a crane.

Siding operation It is shunting or removal of wagons from railway to a set place, at an agreed time, onto the siding and vice versa (traffic service). More runs are possible relating to one siding operation.
Sender/consignor A company, individual making business under a trade license or individual concluding a contract of goods and objects transported by carrier.
Spare transport document A document replacing a missing consignment note.
Semi-trailer A non-powered vehicle intended to be coupled to a motor vehicle in such a way that a part of its weight and load is borne by the motor vehicle.
Sheet A transport tool protecting some kinds of goods transported in open wagon or for other purposes.
Safety advisor ZSSK CARGO employee holding a certificate of safety advisor for transportation of dangerous goods training granted pursuant to the EU directives 1996/35/EU and 2000/18/EU.
Seal A barrier to secure goods in wagons, intermodal transport units and open wagons cover by a sheet to avoid taking out or enclosing goods without a visible damage of the seal and consignment during the transport. 
Siding user Under these business terms and conditions the entity utilizing the siding to meet its own needs, i.e. it is a sender or consignee of consignments directed on or from the siding. Under these business conditions, it can be siding operator or siding co-user.  
Siding owner Entity (legal entity or individual) possessing the siding.
Siding Railway track used for own transport needs of siding owner or other entity on a contract basis made with the siding owner; it joins a nationwide railway, local railway or another siding.
Siding operator Siding operator, i.e. legal entity or individual operating the siding in compliance with the Railway Operation Permit issued by a particular authority under the Railways Act of the Slovak National Council No. 164/1996 Coll. as amended.
Siding operation Set of traffic activities, which provide the siding shunting during an agreed time or at an agreed scope of services.
Siding contract A subject of the contract is rights and obligations resulting from particular railways and traffic operation on these routes, to provide the junction operation of particular siding.
Siding services The services provided by ZSSK CARGO in order to provide transport from siding to railway and vice versa.

Satisfaction of the customer A level of customer’s perception to what extent his requirements have been met or his feelings resulting from differences between the requirements and perceived reality. 
Siding co-user Legal entity or person who co-utilizes the siding to meet its transportation needs, based on the co-utilization contract concluded with the siding owner.
Station When the infrastructure operation is separated from traffic services of railway company, the “station” is a unit , which is required to provide trading services and place for these services in transportation of goods and objects
Siding co-utilization Contract An agreement made between private siding owner and co-user, the subject of which is the approval of a private siding owner with co-utilization of the siding, as well as the rights and obligations resulting from the utilization of this siding by another user.
Station on the route Station on a transport route where transport services with the consignment are carried as necessary.
Sending station Station listed in a transport document where the consignor submits and the carrier takes over the consignment for transport.
Siding maintenance A set of services ensuring the required technical conditions of the siding.

Traffic routes They are routes, which the means of transport are moved on. They can be natural (seas, rivers, air space, etc.), or artificial (roads, railways, phone and telegraphic cables, etc.).
Traffic rails Rail designated for train transport, i.e. incoming, outgoing, transiting, passing and waiting rails.
Traffic devices They are technical objects and announcing and security devices, which are necessary for conveyance (e.g. airports, ports, platforms, even radio and TV stations, etc.).
Tariff Public list of offered prices and fees, obligatory for price negotiation pursuant to valid price legislative for services provided by the carrier.
