32nd Slovak-Ukrainian Railway Border Conference

The 32nd Slovak-Ukrainian Railway Border Conference took place at Štrbské Pleso from May 19 to 22, 2025.

The event brought together experts from Cargo Slovakia (ZSSK CARGO), the Railway Company of the Slovak Republic (ŽSR), and the Slovak Railway Company (ZSSK) with their counterparts from the Ukrainian state railway company, Ukrzaliznytsia. The main objective of the conference was to discuss current challenges, align mutual interests, and establish a framework for future cooperation in cross-border railway transport.

Key topics of discussion in the field of freight transport included:

• volumes of cross-border shipments and their optimization,
• analysis and reduction of the average dwell times of wagons at border stations,
• fulfillment of locomotive turnaround standards,
• updating core operational standards for border crossings,
• as well as the review of the current bilateral agreement and the preparation of new bilateral agreements between the involved railway companies.

The conference was held in a constructive and cooperative atmosphere, with both parties expressing a strong interest in deepening their collaboration and jointly seeking effective solutions that will contribute to smoother and more efficient cross-border rail transport.
